Mike Bell Starting?...Shanahan, Get Serious!
Broncos' fans are flippin' their wigs and rolling over in graves from today's news. Mike Bell is the lastest third Bronco running back to be announced the started in what feels like as many days. Mike Bell's leap to the top of the depth chart is even quicker than Terrell Davis, who came into camp as a sixth-round draft pick in 1995 and won the starting running back job by the first week of the season.
"He's been real impressive," Shanahan said. "It is very close, and it could change day by day, week by week, but we felt like Mike deserves a chance to work with the first team and take a look to see if he can keep it."
Sounds like Shanahan's is having either trouble with Ron Dayne and Tatum Bell, or he's just tring to keep his number 1 guy a secret, but for what? This sounds like one of those games coaches play with their star players -- motivate them by putting the least likely person -- In this case Mike Bell. Maybe I'm being a pessimist, but that's not a good look, on the other hand, if they have a diamond in the rough, then shanahan will become beloved for his keen eye.
