Texans Aquire Ron Dayne

The inevitable happened Sunday, as the Texans claimed Ron Dayne off waivers from the Broncos. If there’s one place where Dayne can succeed away from Mike Shanahan, it’s likely with former Denver offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak in Houston. Early indications are that Wali Lundy’s starting spot is safe for now, but there’s no doubt that Dayne’s presence puts a damper on Lundy’s emerging fantasy stock.

Kubiak said Sunday that Dayne could be used in short-yardage situations, which is curious given that Dayne’s size has never really translated into effectiveness at the goal line and Lundy is no lightweight himself at 215 pounds. Dayne will begin his Texans career third on the depth chart, but could rise quickly if Lundy or Vernand Morency struggle to replace Domanick Davis.
